In California the precipitous decline of salmon and steelhead population in the states rivers has prompted a $600,00 study of stream conditions relevant to these populations. This study included the volume of flowing water as measured by a series of steam flow meters which provided the basic water flow conditions necessary for these fish to migrate upstream. The research data gained from this project will help identify the quantity of water, and at what temperature and flow is required for the salmon and steelhead species to properly mature in freshwater environs. The data gathered will hopefully lead to an increase in available habitat and water supply for these endangered species. The result of the instream flow analysis will be provided to the State Water Resources Control Board for implementation.
